What a full obedience plan teaches
- Sit, down and stay, taught with a release word so the dog learns when the exercise ends.
- A walk on a loose leash that holds up along busy sidewalks and park paths.
- A recall built from the living room outward, never trusted too early.
- Polite greetings at the door and on the sidewalk.
- Proofing: repeating each skill around noise, food, people and other dogs.

Good questions
Before you begin.
How is obedience different from private lessons?
A package follows a planned skill ladder with a set number of lessons. Private lessons are more flexible and often target one problem.
How long does a package take?
Often several weeks to a few months, depending on the dog, the skills and how much you practice between lessons.
Do older dogs benefit?
Yes. Adult dogs learn well, though replacing old habits takes more repetitions.
Is a test or certificate included?
Some trainers offer a skills check at the end. Ask what it covers and whether it costs extra.
